P0116-Engine coolant temperature circuit range/performance in Toyota Vehicles

Engine coolant temperature sensor helps:

  • In sensing engine coolant temperature and overall engine temperature
  • it helps the ECU/PCM to properly control the fuel injector pulse rate, especially at colder temperature to improve engine performance and avoid stalling
  •  improving drivability, at colder engine temperature
  • it helps in maintaining optimum fuel economy

SYMPTOMS OF P0116 IN TOYOTA 

  • Check engine light on
  • hard acceleration, especially at colder engine temperature
  • excessive fuel consumption
  • intermittent engine misfiring - at times everything seems alright, next minute you'll feel difficulty in revving the engine, with shooting sound. You'll have to press hard on the throttle pedal before the engine can move. at times you'll resolve the exhaust is restricted, at other times, the symptom will be that of a bad fuel pump. at times you'll count a misfire from number 1 cylinder. BUT WHEN YOU HAVE ALL THIS SYMPTOMS AND NO DTCs, it's likely that you have a bad fuel pump, and replacing it will solve everything.
  • you may/not feel hard starting.

CAUSES OF P0116 IN TOYOTA VEHICLES 

  • faulty ECT sensor
  • open or shut in the wiring harness
  • poor or wrong electrical connection
  • low coolant level or bad thermostat
